Publication of the Japanese translation of Happiness and Virtue Beyond East and West – Toward a New Global Responsibility.

On November 20 (Fri), A Japanese translation of “Happiness and Virtue Beyond East and West – Toward a New Global Responsibility” was published by Reitaku University Press.

This book is a Japanese translation of “Happiness and Virtue Beyond East and West – Toward a New Global Responsibility” which was originally published by TUTTLE Publishing as a product of the collaborative project of the Center for Moral Science and Education of Reitaku University and the Center for Character and Social Responsibility, a division of the School of Education at Boston University. The book has been receiving international recognition.

To the original work, “Happiness and Virtue Beyond East and West – Toward a New Global Responsibility”, 9 scholars from Reitaku University made contributions, including President Osamu Nakayama (also the head of the Center for Moral Science and Education), professor Syujiro Mizuno and professor Kazunobu Horiuchi. From Boston University, on the other hand, 3 scholars including professor Kevin Ryan contributed to the work. Nine virtues are plainly illustrated in the book, which are indispensable for the realization of happiness, namely, Courage, Justice, Benevolence, Gratitude, Wisdom, Reflection, Respect, Responsibility and Temperance, each from respective contributors’ perspectives.

Also in commemoration of the publication of “Happiness and Virtue Beyond East and West – Toward a New Global Responsibility”, a symposium titled “The Ethics of Global Competence” was held at Boston University in April.

The book is the fruit of our collaborative project in an attempt to form a bond between the east and the west and thus create a bridge. For those who are interested, the book is available at bookstores or you can also place an order at Reitaku University Press.
